Nondestructive Evaluation of Thermal Barrier Coatings Thickness Using Terahertz Technique Combined with PCA–GA–ELM Algorithm

چکیده

Thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) are usually used in high temperature and harsh environment, resulting thinning or even spalling off. Hence, it is vital to detect the thickness of TBCs. In this study, a hybrid machine learning model combined with terahertz time-domain spectroscopy technology was designed predict The signals were obtained from samples prepared laboratory actual turbine blade. principal component analysis (PCA) method decrease data dimensions. Finally, an extreme (ELM) proposed establish TBCs prediction model. Genetic algorithm (GA) selected optimize make more accurate. results showed that root correlation coefficient (R2) exceeded 0.97 errors (root mean square error absolute percentage error) less than 2.57. This study proposes PCA–GA–ELM accurate feasible for evaluating

Development of Nondestructive Evaluation Methods for Thermal Barrier Coatings

Nondestructive evaluation (NDE) methods are being developed at Argonne National Laboratory for thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) applied to components in the hot-gas path of advanced high-efficiency and low-emission gas turbines, including syn-gas fired turbines. As TBCs become “prime reliant,” it becomes important to know their conditions nondestructively to assure the reliability of these compo...

Nondestructive Evaluation of Coatings

Bulk and Rayleigh (or surface wave) velocities of ultrasonic waves in chromium coatings on steel were measured and an experimental correlation was found between the surface velocity and the hardness. Since qualitative coating evaluation is commonly made using hardnesses as a guideline, the possibility is herewith presented of using the so und velocities of surface ultrasonic waves for this purp...

Nondestructive Quantification of Pharmaceutical Tablet Coatings using Terahertz Pulsed Imaging and Optical Coherence Tomography

Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) and Terahertz pulsed imaging (TPI) are two powerful techniques allowing high quality cross-sectional images from within scattering media to be obtained non-destructively. In this paper, we report experimental results of using OCT and TPI for quantitatively characterizing pharmaceutical tablet coatings in the thickness range of 10—140 μm. We found that the spec...

Microstructural investigations of EBPVD thermal barrier coatings

This paper deals with the morphology, constitutive phases and fine microstructures of some EBPVD processed yttria partially stabilized zirconia thermal barrier coatings. This study has been performed by X-ray diffraction and scanning and transmission electron microscopy. It was shown that the coatings studied were constituted of a single metastable tetragonal t' phase, as expected if one refers...

Thermophysical properties of thermal barrier coatings

Thin layers of thermal barrier coating (TBCs) are applied to metallic components of heat engines to reduce metal temperatures and to provide environmental protection. This results in increased engine efficiency and prolonged operational life. Of special current interest is the use of TBCs in aircraft engines. The TBCs, often yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ), are deposited on nickel or cobalt-ba...
